Are you looking for work during the summer months? Whether you’re in the market for seasonal work or looking for a new career move it is important to know the best ways to kick off your search. Summer time offers its own challenges to the job market so here are some tips and tricks for starting your job hunt this time of year.

  1. Network with companies who are ramping up. Look at some of the companies in your community and see if they might need additional help over the summer. Production companies often have high volume demands this time of year. Contact them and see if and when they are going to start hiring for the summer.
  2. Volunteer. If you’ve been on the market for a while one of the best things you can do for your job search is volunteer for organizations in your community. For example, summer is an important time for local food pantries since school is out and families who rely on these items need more this time of year. You never know who you will meet doing this kind of work and it may lead to a permanent position.
  3. Invest in interviewing clothes. Summer is a good time to reevaluate the clothes in your wardrobe to make sure you are giving companies the best first impression. Never wear anything inappropriate even on a hot day. Look at clothes that are outdated and can be donated to a local charity. Shop for new, appropriate interview clothes taking advantage of summer sales and discount stores.
  4. Work with a local staffing company. Your local staffing company is always seeking talent for their open positions. During the summer they may have additional needs from companies for temporary workers. If you do a good job for these assignments you will be considered for more assignments and eventually qualify for a permanent position.
