This time of year can seem slow for the job market, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Companies may have spent their budget and everyone’s attention is on the holidays rather than work yet there are ways you can continue you search this time of year. Seasonal employment may be one way to keep busy and make connections, but it isn’t the only way.

Here are some tips to stay active in your job hunt this holiday season.

The Iron is Hot.

Because the misconception about hiring in December exists, you can use this to your advantage. No one else is looking for a job this time of year because they don’t think anyone is hiring. You can get yourself in at the right time if you plan your strategy around what other people aren’t doing.

Don’t Forget to Celebrate.

Of course, taking a break this time of year can also give your job hunt some much needed renewed energy. Take some time off to enjoy the holidays with your friend and family. Get out to parties and wrap presents. If you feel less stressed about the holidays you can recharge your job search when you’re ready to get back to it.

Stay Positive.

It is far too common for job seekers to become frustrated especially if they have been on the market for a while. They can feel negative about the process, the lack of response, and the job availability. Whatever you do, don’t let this negativity affect your communications with potential employers. They aren’t inclined to hire people with a negative attitude.

Network in Your Community.

Speaking of those holiday parties, when you meet new people connect with them professionally. Ask them what they do. Talk to them about what you do. They may know someone who is hiring or be in a hiring position themselves.
