While you may be focused on ending 2014 successfully, now is also the right time to start preparing for a great first quarter of 2015. Based on the lessons you’ve learned this year you can prepare for a strong first quarter to kick off the New Year the right way. Here are a few ways you can start preparing now.

Know Your Budget.

The first thing to establish is your annual budget. Determine how much you spend in the last several years and see what worked and what didn’t. Then evaluate each individual department, hiring anticipation needs, and upcoming projects. All of this information together should give you an idea of the budget for the coming year.

Know Your Successes.

You always want to build on past successes. What worked in the past to bring your company more profit or innovation? Utilize your superstars to reproduce this success or create new ideas that can help move you forward. You never want to reinvent the wheel but you also don’t want to fall into a creative rut.

Know Your Plan.

Before you can have a successful year you need to determine how you will get there. Create a plan that will give you a month by month breakdown of how you expect to achieve levels of success by the end of 2015. Know every manager and every employee’s role in your organization’s achievements.

Know Your Goals.

Finally, in order to have a successful new year you need to know what you want for your company. No two organizations are alike. You can use ideas from your competitors to create your goals but don’t rely on just the expected path to accomplishments. What do you want for your company? Your employees? Your own career?
