The beep beep beep of your alarm probably makes you want to hit that snooze button at least once. You stretch, you yawn, you turn over again and pretend it isn’t happening. When you do finally shuffle out of bed you may spend more time nursing your coffee than getting ready. So what can you do you change up your morning routine to ensure that you are productive, engaged, and successful each and every day. Here are tricks that other professionals use to help them get up and get going.

Get Up Earlier

It sounds crazy, but it does work. On the flip side, it helps to go establish a routine for getting to bed earlier too. If you set your alarm to give you just enough time to get ready and rush to work, that is exactly how your day is going to feel: rushed. Give yourself time to read or watch the news, eat a good breakfast, or meditate.

Make Time for Exercise

Movement is critical for the human body to function properly and stay healthy. And as we age, it becomes even more essential. Far too many professionals put exercise on the bottom of their priority list. So far at the bottom that it often slips off completely. If you make time to exercise, especially in the morning, you will find yourself with more energy throughout the day.

Start a Journal

Another great start to your morning is to give yourself a half an hour to write anything you want. Journaling is a great practice that is similar to meditation for your brain but won’t make you frustrated about sitting in a quiet room trying not to think of things for twenty minutes. You can journal anything you want from what you need to do when you get home to your deepest philosophical thoughts. Over time, this will become a favorite morning ritual.

Reconnect with Family

The morning is also a good time to spend with your spouse or children before everyone rushes off to work or school. Have breakfast, talk about the day, review anything from homework the night before, or just talk about anything and everything. You spend more time at work than you do at home, so don’t miss out on this opportunity. It will help you be refreshed and ready to go once you arrive at the office.
