Are you feeling stuck?
Is your job no longer challenging you? Do you feel like there are no alternatives in your current company for your skills? Everyone has a bad day on the job but when the feeling of dissatisfaction permeates every day and you find yourself having trouble getting motivated to go to work in the morning, you may have a serious problem. If you think your career has become stagnant there is no better time to make a change. Here are three things you can do right now to facilitate a move in your career.
Determine why exactly you feel this way.
What is it about your current job that is making you feel stuck? Are you unfulfilled? Do you feel like you can’t move forward in your current company? There are many possible reasons that you are feeling less than impressed with your current role so it is important that you know why so you can fix it. Far too many job seekers don’t look deeply into what the really want and end up leaving an unsatisfactory job for a similar role and are surprised when they feel the same within a few months or a year. Sometimes a change of scenery isn’t the best or only solution.
Focus on your professional network and targets.
So much has changed about the job market and the advent of social media really puts a lot of the control in the hands of job seekers. If you find that you are stuck in your current role take some time to determine what kind of company you would prefer to work with. Use resources like LinkedIn and professional organizations to connect with individuals who may help your career advance. Create a targeted search and begin to demonstrate your worth by interacting with these businesses online.
Visualize the results.
Are you a person who loves to exercise? They certainly exist but most people just go through the motions because to be healthy you have to exercise. People who don’t like exercise think about how soon it will be over rather than focusing on the positive. Individuals are more successful with their exercise programs and healthier overall if they pay more attention to the positive aspects around them. For instance, rather than dreading the walk they appreciate the sunset or look for beautiful flowers along the way. The same technique can work for job seekers. Can you change your mind set about your current job? Can it become a more satisfying job if you can alter your perception? If not, what do you see yourself doing?
